Press release:

The International Dachau Committee

learned with great shock and emotion of

the theft of the entrance gate to the Dachau

concentration camp memorial and hopes

that the perpetrators are swiftly identified.

This heinous act addresses a precious symbol: the first inscription "Arbeit macht frei"

under which 200,000 inmates passed entering the camp, this "model" school of violence.

More than ever the continuation of remembrance is necessary

in the face of such denials of the Nazi system.

Pieter Dietz de Loos (Netherlands), Chairman
and Jean-Michel Thomas, Secretary General of the CID.
